The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers exciting programs that give students the theoretical foundation and practical experience to meet the needs of Canadian industry. All first-year students will complete the core engineering program before applying to their desired discipline in second year.

Choose from two undergraduate degree options in Mechanical Engineering:

• Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) - Co-op Program (5 years)
• Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) - Non Co-op Program (4 years)

All Dalhousie Engineering undergraduate programs are accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board.

As a mechanical engineer, you can:

• Design and improve machines and mechanisms such as cars, spacecraft, boats, bikes, disk drives, and printers
• Design and implement effective solutions for existing and emerging energy industries, including renewable energy
• Develop and adapt bio-mechanical equipment for exercise, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and sport
• Select and install equipment for indoor environment control, including heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning for buildings and vehicles
• Organize and maintain production processes for food, lumber, paper, petroleum and textile industries

The Mechanical Engineering program at Dalhousie provides a well-balanced technical education. We prepare graduates to practice in design, research, development, fabrication, testing, processing, construction, operation, planning, sales, and management.
