Overview

Gain knowledge and skills from an accredited program leading to registration and a license from the provincial social work body.

This accredited degree offers the knowledge, skills, and experience you need to work effectively with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.

Develop and increase your knowledge and skills to work with First Nations peoples and all communities with two field education placements.

Learn about Anishinaabe traditional teachings, theories and practices from Indigenous faculty and staff and endorsed by the School of Indigenous Relations.

  • Program is recognized and accredited by the Canadian Association of Social Work Education (CASWE), and leads to a provincial social work registration and license from the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).

  • The program prepares students for the provincial social work registration and license (OCSWSSW)
  • The program is offered on campus on a full-time basis
  • The program is offered through the Laurentian Online on a full-time and part-time basis from September to April only. Spring term we offer only ISWK 1006, ISWK 1007 and ISWK 3605, ISWK 4605.

All secondary school applicants must successfully complete six Grade 12 4U/M courses and receive the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Minimum overall 'B' average (or GPA 3.0 on a 4.0 scale) in a recognized academic grade 12 program. At least 4 different academic subjects at the matriculation level must be represented in the high school diploma. (A SAT I score of 1,650 or composite ACT of 24 is recommended, but not required). English Language Requirements: Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) - Test Of English as a Foreign Language: 88 overall; Computer-based TOEFL (CBT) - Test Of English as a Foreign Language: 230 overall; IELTS Academic - International English Language Testing System: 6.5 overall No band lower than 6.0; Cambridge Assessment English: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a Cambridge Score of 176 or more; CAEL - Canadian Academic English Language Assessment: 70 overall No part below 60; Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees - CanTEST: 4.5 overall No part below 4; PTE Academic - Pearson Test of English: 60 overall.
