Explore metaphysical, epistemological, moral and political questions about selves, agency and communities. Our Master of Arts (MA) in Philosophy is the only program of its kind in Canada to have a thematic focus that explores questions about the nature of the self, its relation to others, and the nature and significance of human agency.
A FOCUS ON SELF AND HUMAN AGENCY
Philosophical questions about the self and human agency cut across traditional core areas of philosophy – so although our program is distinctive in its special thematic focus, your research project can span a broad range of the traditional philosophical fields.
Our thematic focus on the self and human agency means you can work in diverse fields and from different philosophical perspectives, can productively engage in discussion and learn from others’ work, and will be well prepared for doctoral work in philosophy or for a career in any number of fields outside of philosophy.
PEER INTERACTION AND OUR INNOVATIVE RESEARCH SEMINAR
The synergy of our themed program is evident in our master’s research seminar, where you’ll share your work during the development of a major research paper. Discussion of your projects and research questions in the early stages enables the rapid development of research skills as you learn from the critique of your work and the work of your peers. Peer interaction and philosophical exchange is the base of our vibrant graduate community.
