O que eu aprenderei?

The Master of Arts program is designed to satisfy the diverse interests of students who wish to pursue a year of graduate study in political science. Students admitted to the MA program may choose from three fields: Political Theory, Political Science, and Political Economy of International Development. Students whose interests are primarily normative and philosophical may choose the field of Political Theory.

The field of Political Economy of International Development offers students an opportunity to explore contemporary issues of poverty, inequality, ecological sustainability, and political violence in the global south from an interdisciplinary, political-economic perspective. Students must complete four full course equivalents and must satisfy the following requirements:

  1. POL2408H
  2. One full credit equivalent from the Political Science section of the PEID list of courses
  3. At least one half course from the Outside Courses section of the PEID list
  4. One of the Department’s MA research seminars (POL 2810Y or 2811Y) with a research focus on a topic of political economy of international development
  5. One additional half course from one of the three sections of the PEID list of courses

Applicants must have an appropriate bachelor's degree, or its equivalent, with a final year average of at least mid-B from a recognized university. Other English Language Requirements: TOEFL Paper-based Test Overall Score: 580, TWE: 4; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) score of 85, with no part score below 80; Cambridge English Proficiency/Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): 76 (with at least 22 in each component and 32 in the writing component).

Para estudantes internacionais

Applicants are admitted under the General Regulations of the School of Graduate Studies. Applicants must also satisfy the Department of Political Science's additional admission requirements stated below.

Cumulative grade average equivalent to a University of Toronto B+ or better in an appropriate bachelor's degree program. Preference will be given to applicants with outstanding academic records and a strong background in political science.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS): The minimum requirement is an overall band of 6.5, with no band below 6.0.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): The minimum scores required for the different TOEFL tests are:

Internet-based Test:

Minimum Requirement: total score of 100 + 22 on Writing

Discretionary Range: total score 89-99 +19 - 21 on Writing

Cambridge Assessment English C1: Advanced or C2: Proficiency: A minimum overall score of 180, with at least 170 in each component.

Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): The minimum score required to meet our English facility requirement is an overall score of 70 and no part below 60.

Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees (CanTEST): The minimum requirement is a total score of 4.5, and no part below 4.
