O que eu aprenderei?

The Master of Science program extends over a two-year period that would normally be expected to be completed in the summer of the second year. Collaborative programs may take longer. The M.Sc. Program may also be taken on a part-time basis. This program may be appropriate for students who are considering careers in consulting archaeology, some aspects of medical or forensic anthropology, NGO work, or application to Ph.D. programs in Anthropology at other universities.

Program Requirements:

Coursework: Students must complete 4.5 full-course equivalents (FCEs) including:

  • 0.5 FCE: ANT1099H- ​Quantitative Methods II or ANT3047H – Evolutionary Anthropology Theory or ANT4020H Archaeology Theory or ANT6100H – History of Anthropological Thought
  • NOTE: for SCL students ANT6003H – Critical Issues in Ethnography I​​​ and ANT6040H – Research Design and Fieldwork Methods​ are also recommended. Students should consult with their advisors about appropriate methods of training.
  • 1.0 FCE: ANT2500Y – M.Sc. Research Paper *
  • 3.0 additional FCEs: of which 1.5 FCEs will normally be science courses in archaeology, evolutionary anthropology, medical anthropology, or related disciplines depending on the student’s program

Applicants must have an appropriate bachelor's degree, or its equivalent, with a final year average of at least mid-B from a recognized university. Other English Language Requirements: TOEFL Paper-based Test Overall Score: 580, TWE: 4; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) score of 85, with no part score below 80; Cambridge English Proficiency/Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): 76 (with at least 22 in each component and 32 in the writing component).

Applicants must satisfy the department that they have the appropriate background to enter a particular program of graduate study.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS): The minimum requirement is an overall band of 6.5, with no band below 6.0.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): The minimum scores required for the different TOEFL tests are:

Internet-based Test:

Minimum Requirement: total score of 100 + 22 on Writing

Discretionary Range: total score 89-99 +19 - 21 on Writing

Cambridge Assessment English C1: Advanced or C2: Proficiency: A minimum overall score of 180, with at least 170 in each component.

Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): The minimum score required to meet our English facility requirement is an overall score of 70 and no part below 60.

Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees (CanTEST): The minimum requirement is a total score of 4.5, and no part below 4.
