Degree requirements

Students have the responsibility of choosing the option that they will follow. The Thesis option provides an opportunity for the student to acquire a greater degree of research experience, whereas the Master’s Research Paper option provides an opportunity for the student to acquire a broader formal background in their chosen area of specialization through training in a larger number of courses.

Full-time tuition per term: $7,696.00; Full-time incidental fees per term (including HST): $800.95; Graduate co-operative programs: A fee in the amount of $745.00 per four-month work-term will be charged to students using the services of Co-operative Education. The given fees refers to the academic year 2022-2023 and subject to change it for upcoming intakes.

Applicants must have a 75% overall standing in the last two years, or equivalent, in a four-year Honours Bachelor's degree or equivalent is the minimum requirement for admission to a Master's program. Other English language requirements: Paper-Based TOEFL(PBT): 580; MELAB - Michigan English Language Assessment Battery: 85,80 per section For co-op programs: speaking 3; CAEL - Canadian Academic English Language Assessment: 70, 60 per band, Writing 70,Speaking 70; PTE Academic - Pearson Test of English: 63, Writing 65, Speaking 65; EFAS - English for Academic Success: 75% overall in 400 level with 75% in each of academic, oral, and writing.

Minimum admission requirements

Students should have a Honours Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Earth Sciences, or equivalent (e.g. Geology, Geosciences), with no less than a 75% standing. Outstanding students in other fields will also be accepted, but will have to take extra courses to strengthen their background preparation.
Before applying to the program, students are strongly advised to establish contact with potential supervisors. It is a good strategy to identify whether the potential supervisors that students would like to undertake research with have available positions and funding.
