The master's program in Computational Linguistics is an international, English-language course with a strong research focus. The course is designed to acquire long-term skills that are based on systematic, critical knowledge acquisition and knowledge advancement, which justify a scientifically sound, job-related qualification of the students in the field of computational linguistics. The computer linguistics course imparts specialist competencies in close interlinking of theory and practice in the interdisciplinary context of linguistics, psychology and computer science.

The MA Computational Linguistics is an international, English-language degree program with a strong research focus. It allows students to obtain long-term skills aimed at obtaining and increasing knowledge in a systematic and critical way, and justifying a general scientifically-based occupational qualification for students in the field of Computational Linguistics. The Computational Linguistics program teaches subject skills in close cooperation with theory and practice in an interdisciplinary context of Linguistics, Psychology, and Informatics.

What are the special features of the course in Tübingen?

The language of instruction in the MA Computational Linguistics is English. The language of the MA thesis and the oral exam is either English or German. For foreign students who are unable to prove German language skills when starting their MA studies, it is planned that they will acquire German language skills at the University of Tübingen during the first year of their studies.

Teaching language in the MA program Computational Linguistics is English. As examination language for the MA thesis as well as for the oral exam, English or German can be chosen. For foreign students who could not make proof of a knowledge of German when accepted to the program, German language classes are planned for their first year of studies at the University of Tübingen.

Career prospects

The career prospects range from employment in small software companies or publishers to the research departments of large companies. Those who are more interested in further academic work can do a doctorate.

Para estudantes internacionais

As a consecutive course, it is aimed at students with a good bachelor's degree in computer linguistics. Applicants with a good bachelor's degree with a focus on theoretical / formal linguistics or computer science can also register after a successful quality and affinity check of the degree. However, you will receive course editions for the area not covered in the Bachelor, which must be completed in the intended module "Supplementary Area: Basics".

Proof of good knowledge of English at level B2 of the European Framework of Reference or above is also required for enrollment. This evidence must be provided by an internationally recognized test (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.). Applicants with a German Abitur as well as applicants whose native language is English or who have a degree from an English-speaking secondary school do not need any additional proof, as this already proves the B2 level.
