Graduates of this qualification will be able to: Apply a range of audio software and hardware to produce complex music. Produce complex music using a range of audio software and hardware, and a range of audio engineering techniques and processes. Create and produce complex music, recordings and other sound-related works. Apply music and sonic theory to produce complex music. Apply a broad range of research and analytical skills to inform own practice. Manage and take responsibility for own professional practice. - Analyse characteristics of the audio and related music industry to develop own career plan.

Course Content

Students must complete all of the following: AUD501 Acoustics 1, AUD502 Applied Audio Engineering 1, AUD503 Applied Audio Production 1, AUD504 Information Technology and Audio Software 1, AUD505 Music Theory and Technology 1, AUD506 Audio Electronics 1, CON501 Contextual Studies, MAI501 Music and Audio Industry Studies

Career Opportunities: The aim of the qualification is to provide those wishing to work in the audio production industry with a foundation of basic skills and knowledge required for entry level employment or/and provide a base for further education.

Satisfactory Completion: To satisfactorily complete the Diploma in Audio Engineering (Level 5) leading to the New Zealand Diploma in Audio Engineering and Production (Level 5), and be awarded this qualification the student must successfully achieve: A minimum of 120 credits in accordance with the Programme schedule for the Diploma in Audio Engineering (Level 5) leading to the New Zealand Diploma in Audio Engineering and Production (Level 5). The student will normally be expected to complete the Diploma in Audio Engineering (Level 5) leading to the New Zealand Diploma in Audio Engineering and Production (Level 5) full-time over one year or part-time over two years.

Mature Applicants: Be at least 20 years of age when the programme begins and provide evidence of aptitude or appropriate work or other experience. All applicants may have to submit a portfolio of work including transcripts, examples of written work and studio practice in an applicable discipline as directed by the PM, prior to attending an interview.

English Language Requirements: IELTS test - Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5; TOEFL Paper based test (pBT) - Score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE); TOEFL Internet based test (iBT) - Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14); Cambridge English Examination – B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill; OET at Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36; Language Cert - B2 Communicator IESOL (LRWS) with HIGH PASS and no less than Pass in each skill; Trinity ISE: ISE11 with no less than merit in any band.
