This qualification is designed for learners who want to gain skills in centre-based early childhood care, including early childhood education essentials, child development and relevant health and safety policies. This programme enables learners to enter the workforce (as an educator in playgroups and care centres) or progress into the Diploma in Early Childhood Level 5.

You will learn:

Context of Early Childhood Education in Aotearoa

Communities in Aotearoa New Zealand and Maori as Tangata Whenua

The early childhood curriculum Te Whariki applied to assessment for learning and teaching practice in an early childhood setting

Professional practice informed by learning and development theories, government strategies and policy

Human development and learning

Health and safety policies and procedures in practice plans and evaluation

Requisitos de admissão

Para estudantes internacionais

Students need to be 18 years of age or older.

Be reliable, responsible and in good health.

Hold a New Zealand Certificate in Early Childhood Education (Level 3) or NCEA Level 2, or equivalent.

Or for those with relevant ECE work experience, a referee who knows the applicant in a professional capacity to provide a confidential referee report in support of the application. Applications will be considered on a case by case basis.

Meet the minimum requirements of the NZMA Entry Assessment.

Have an acceptable safety check (New Zealand Police Vet) prior to beginning of practical experience; home-based must be employed in a licenced Home-based ECE service, produce reference and attestation letter which includes current police vetting information from HB employer. If the programme begins before the Vet report has been received from the New Zealand Police, students may begin the programme but may not attend any practical experience at an ECE Service Provider until an acceptable report has been received.

If English is not your first language, an IELTS of Level 5.5 (General or Academic) with no sub-score less than 5, or equivalent is required
