As a plant breeding student, you will have access to Masseys world-leading equipment and facilities such as our extensive glasshouses and farms, molecule labs, the Dame Ella Campbell Herbarium, the Palynology Laboratory, Plant Growth Unit, Seed Testing Services, Massey Genome Service and the Manawatu Microscopy and Imaging Centre.

To enter the Postgraduate Diploma, you will have been awarded or qualified for the bachelor’s degree or equivalent. You will need to have achieved a grade average in your bachelor degree that demonstrates an adequate level of preparation for the postgraduate programme. This normally means that a B- grade average or above is required.

All students must meet university entrance requirements to be admitted to the University.

Specific requirements

To enter the Postgraduate Diploma in Science and Technology (Plant Breeding) you will have been awarded or qualified for:

a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, with a major in the intended postgraduate subject, or equivalent, with a minimum B- average in the majoring 300-level courses, or

a postgraduate certificate that includes 30 credits of courses from the schedule to the Postgraduate Diploma in Science and Technology, or equivalent.

You will need to provide verified copies of all academic transcripts for studies taken at all universities other than Massey University.

International English Language Requirements:

  • IELTS - 6.5 overall and minimum 6.0 in each band
  • TOEFL iBT – Overall score 90, minimum 20 in Writing
  • Cambridge English - C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a score of 176. No less than 169 in each skill.
  • NCEL - Level 5
  • PTE - 58 overall and minimum 50 in each communicative skills
  • LanguageCert - C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with HIGH PASS and no less than Pass in each skill or C2 Mastery IESOL (LRWS) with PASS and no less than Pass in each skill
