Studying Accounting and Finance at the University of Birmingham Dubai provides the basis for sound decision-making in business. As the world recovers from a global pandemic, this has never been more important.
Why study this course?
Accounting and finance is a universal language that crosses borders. Our globally respected programme teaches you the roles and responsibilities that apply in whichever country you choose to practise in. Our programmes are aligned with professional accounting bodies across the globe and you will benefit from nine exemptions including ACCA, CIMA and CPA Australia.
Your programme of study
Foundation year
Designed for international students who require a preparatory year prior to undergraduate study, the Integrated Accounting and Finance foundation course is the equivalent in learning to year 13 of the UK education system. We will ensure you're fully prepared for your undergraduate BSc Accounting and Finance course, immersing you in the university environment and giving you dedicated support in your first year in Dubai.
Successful completion of the Integrated Foundation course will also guarantee you progression onto the BSc Accounting and Finance. You will need at least 100 credits at an average of at least 60%, with at least 60% in Academic English and Study Skills and at least 65% in Quantitative Methods for Business and Economics.
The BSc Accounting and Finance programme
As part of your first year of study on our Accounting and Finance course, you will complete 6 core modules. During the second year you will focus on employability through a range of department organised events designed to help you secure a graduate position at the end of your degree. The modules you take in the third year are designed to raise your knowledge to a managerial level, equipping you with the tools you need to be successful at a senior level within the accounting and finance sector.
Accreditation
The University of Birmingham's Accounting and Finance Programmes on the home campus are accredited by ACCA and CPA Australia. Students who graduate form the Accounting and Finance degree will be eligible for exemptions from these accrediting professional bodies and will also be eligible for exemptions from Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) professional exams, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA). Each body has their own assessment process but currently students taking the required modules can gain up to seven (7) exceptions from their professional exams. As the Dubai programme is directly comparable to the home programmes we expect students to gain the same exemptions.
