Your programme of study

The course is designed to allow maximum flexibility whilst ensuring that you study of subjects to satisfy a wide range of employers during your career. You will take compulsory modules in Economics, Accounting, Banking, Finance, Law and Quantitative Techniques. During your final year you will also write an extended essay which allows in-depth study of a topic of special interest to you.

Up to 10% of the cohort of students (with a max. of 10 students) will have the opportunity to undertake the second year of our Money, Banking and Finance course in Birmingham. In order to be eligible for this opportunity, students will need to have achieved a weighted mean mark of 60% in their first year and will need to establish their right to study in the UK (via a visa if necessary). When in Birmingham, students will follow the course requirements of the Birmingham-based version of the Money, Banking and Finance course, as they will be temporarily transferred to that programme.

How you'll learn

As well as exploring theoretical aspects, you’ll find that your degree has a strong practical focus, and this is reflected in the way you’ll be taught. Learning from experts in their field, you will be encouraged to think for yourself and will experience a number of different learning settings, including lectures, tutorials and even the opportunity to be involved in our Economics Laboratory.

Our aim is to equip you with specific skills in economics, but also generic skills that can be applied right across the job spectrum, such as analytical and data analysis. You’ll be taught using a combination of lectures and tutorials with lecturers using innovative teaching techniques where possible.

Our degrees are highly regarded by employers and our graduates are very successful in the job market. In most cases, our graduates go into roles related to their degrees, such as trainee accountancy in professional practice, industry or the public sector, tax consultancy or banking.
