O que eu aprenderei?

This course covers all aspects of dance training. it will develop your technical and performance skills in a wide variety of dance styles. You will have many opportunities to showcase your acquired skills throughout the year in a range of performance platforms. You will gain knowledge and understanding of choreographic principles as well as core industry related business skills, developing yourself as an individual artist. You will have the opportunity to combine theory and practice in an exciting and stimulating way.

The 90 Credit qualification is a one year full-time skills development year and is equivalent to 1.5 A-levels. On successful completetion of the 90 credit qualification, the natural progression is to advance on to the second year Extended Diploma course. The Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A-levels. Some mature students however may choose to progress from the 90 Credit one year course directly into employment or alternative training such as our Level 4 HNC Performing Arts (Dance) course.

Dance students benefit from access to three purpose-built dance studios with sprung floors and mirrors. There are additional studios for class/workshop activity and independent rehearsals. Students are presented with opportunities to be involved with a wide range of work experience and enrichment projects where their refined skills can be put to use in industry/vocational settings.

The Dance courses consist of practical sessions, lectures, workshops and performances covering a range of skills and include core and specialise elements delivered by subject specialist staff. Study programmes are scheduled to include GCSE Maths & English classes which are compulsory where a Grade C/4 or above qualification has not been prior achieved in one of these subjects. 90 Credit Dance units may include:

  • Ballet Technique
  • Contemporary Dance Technique
  • Jazz Dance
  • Urban Dance
  • Choreographic Principles
  • Performance workshop & Performing to an Audience
  • Historical Context & Dance Appreciation

Extended Diploma Dance units may include:

  • Applied Ballet
  • Applied Contemporary
  • Rehearsal and Performing to an Audience
  • Choreographing Dance
  • Dance Improvisation & Contact Improvisation
  • International Dance/Tap
  • Performing Arts Business

There are opportunities for theatre visits/trips/workshops throughout the year and we invite in professional practitioners to inspire and give industry advice. There is considerable emphasis on group work and collaboration, so all students are expected to be committed to the group and to the discipline of rehearsal and performance.
