Course summary

This course aims to provide you with the professional skills and knowledge required for a career in sports journalism and sports media.

You will learn how to research, write and present sports-based news, commentary and features to a high standard across print, online and broadcast platforms.

You will also develop an understanding of sports media and the ethical, legal and regulatory context in which sports journalists work.

The following qualifications will be considered for entry on to postgraduate taught programmes: a first degree or professional qualification recognised as being equivalent to degree standard; an HND or higher education diploma with substantial work experience in an appropriate field; successful completion of a recognised pre-Masters course. The following qualifications will be considered for entry on to postgraduate research programmes (MPhil/PhD): Masters Degree from a recognised university. IELTS for UKVI 6.0; Listening: minimum level 5.5; Speaking: minimum level 5.5; Reading: minimum level 5.5; Writing: minimum level 5.5.

Para estudantes internacionais

Normally an honours degree (2.2 or above) or equivalent in any subject. Overseas applicants from countries whose first language is not English must normally produce evidence of competence in English. An IELTS score of 6.5 with 5.5 in all skills (or equivalent) is the standard for non-native speakers of English. If your English language skill is currently below an IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English level.
