OVERVIEW
The University of Northampton’s Molecular Medicine MSc is aimed at individuals with prior knowledge of, or keen interest in, molecular medicine, genetics and genomics, and through our supportive environment you will develop your knowledge and understanding of key aspects of molecular medicine. You will have the opportunity to tailor your studies to your own interests through a selection of relevant modules.
The Molecular Medicine MSc programme supports you to develop your knowledge and understanding and is aimed at individuals with prior knowledge of, or keen interest in, molecular medicine and genetics and genomics.
Areas of focus include immunological cancers, diagnosis and mechanisms of bacterial infections and antimicrobial resistance, the pathology of neuromuscular disorders, neurological and neurodegenerative disease and the role of bioenergetics in health and disease.
Whether you wish to follow an applied career in bioscience or go on to further study at PhD level, this molecular medicine programme gives you the skills, qualification and insight to follow your dreams.
Course Details
Students study six modules over one year full time, or two years if studying part time on this molecular medicine masters. You will follow subject specific and Research Methods modules and undertake a research project in your area of interest that gives an individual focus, whilst also integrating you into the Molecular Biosciences Research Group within the
In the Molecular Medicine module, you will study interdisciplinary approaches to understanding normal and pathological systems and processes at the molecular level, including novel treatments and drug development. In Genes and Genomics, you will gain in-depth knowledge of both molecular genetics and genomics, including bioinformatics and large data analyses with a focus upon novel technologies.
You will study a Current Topics module, which allows you to choose relevant and cutting-edge issues in molecular medicine, working independently to pursue your own interests with the support of a supervising tutor.
To improve your employability, apply your skills and build your social capital, you will also complete 150 hours of Applied Practice with an option of a work placement or a laboratory-based module, featuring key molecular techniques and a problem based independent project, designed to increase your employability after your course.
