Health humanities is an integrated learning major that provides students an understanding of health, healing, disability and illness and prepares students for advanced study and health-related careers.
The program engages students in a critical, multi-disciplinary, reflective course of study designed to complement proficiency in scientific content with awareness of the social and cultural landscape that affects health outcomes, as well as with training in basic bioethics. The major can be combined with any other major at SU.
Courses
Core coursework includes Introduction to the Health Humanities, as well as courses in bioethics and in either sociology of health & illness or sociology of disability. The electives concern health as it relates to global, social and communication concerns as well as communities and stages of life. Sample courses include

With a degree in health humanities you can explore careers such as:
Medical anthropologist
Health educator or researcher

Medical illustrator or historian
Or pursue an advanced degree in dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, public health, health administration, occupational therapy, physical therapy, social work, nursing, law or physician assistant studies.
