The B.S.Ed. in Early Childhood Education and Teaching prepares undergraduate students for roles as teachers and daycare providers of infants, toddlers, and young children in schools and community daycare/preschool settings. The program focuses on providing students with a solid foundation in child development, educational psychology and the role of the family and society in education.
The PK-3 concentration emphasizes working with young learners in inclusive settings and the value of play in early childhood instructional environments. Students will develop skills to advocate for equitable learning opportunities for all children.
Upon completion of degree requirements in any of VCU's undergraduate educator preparation programs and with the recommendation of the School of Education, students are eligible to receive initial licensure from the Virginia Department of Education.

Admission to a VCU undergraduate degree program requires graduation from a secondary school or the equivalent (lyceum, senior middle school, university preparatory school, completion of GCSE exams, Standard 12 graduation, etc.), which typically consists of at least 12 years beyond kindergarten.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 70 IBT for undergraduates
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6.0 for undergraduates
Pearson Test of English: 53 for undergraduates
SAT: Score of at least 22 on the Reading test.
ACT: Score of at least 16 on the English section of the test.
Duolingo Test Score: Score minimum of 105
