O que eu aprenderei?

The Department of History, Political Science & Philosophy at Texas A&M University-Kingsville! Our department proudly offers majors in Criminal Justice, History, and Political Science. In addition, we house minors in International Studies, Philosophy, and Public History. Students in our department explore the world. Whether they are examining the world of ideas as presented in Philosophy, journeying to the world of the past in History, or quite literally traveling the world in Dr. Nirmala Go swami’s global program courses or internships, our students gain a wealth of knowledge and skills. While students explore beyond the confines of our national borders, they are also presented myriad opportunities to learn more about the United States. Students do this in small, traditional classroom settings: with no more than 35 students in lower-division courses, and no more than 25 students in upper-division classes, we know our students well. But our students also gain hands-on experience through internships in criminal justice, public history, politics, and law. Some students have even traveled to Washington D.C. to intern for local congressional representatives. Through these experiences, students learn research, writing, and analytical skills that have them well poised to master their futures. Graduates from our department work in an astonishing variety of fields. They have become journalists, policy analysts, political aids, bankers, counselors, teachers, administrators, and event coordinators. Criminal Justice majors can expect to pursue careers such as Sheriff’s deputies, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, fraud investigators, corrections officers, and U.S. marshals. Our alumni have attended graduate school at prestigious institutions such as Columbia University, Texas Christian University, the University of Texas at Austin, the Bush School of Government and Public Service, and Yale Law School. But we offer more than an education: we provide a community. We support our students with a variety of departmental scholarships. Students forge friendships not just in class, but also through participation in our active student organizations, which include the Robert J. Kleberg History Club, Phi Alpha Theta, the Pre-Law Society, Pi Sigma Alpha, and the Philosophy Club. Students also enjoy individual mentoring from faculty members as they prepare for their futures.
