O que eu aprenderei?

Through interdisciplinary education in research, analysis, technology, communication and business, the program prepares graduates to play crucial roles in the comprehension, development and management of intercultural exchanges and globalization. The Centre for International Studies supports “hands-on” learning through internships, service programs, study abroad, student presentations at research conferences, research-focused seminars and publishable theses.

Course Work

The Master of Arts in international studies degree offers thesis and non-thesis options, with core courses and prescribed electives. Electives are chosen in consultation with the graduate advisor to match the student’s career interests and include courses from many disciplines.

Requirements for the 30-hour thesis option includes a two course sequence in the same discipline, with geography, history, mass communication, political science, sociology and Spanish as eligible options.

The 36-hour non-thesis option requires an internship, typically in a government agency, company or organization related to the student’s preferred career field. It consists of at least 150 hours in the workplace and a research paper.

Career Options

Receiving a degree in international studies allows students to work in diverse fields, including government, intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and academia. This multidisciplinary degree presents a wide range of opportunities to the international studies graduate, with careers spanning the globe. An international studies degree allows students to become highly marketable and competitive in these sectors.

English Language Requirements: TOEFL iBT scores required with a 78 overall and minimum individual module scores of 19 listening 19 reading 19 speaking 18 writing; IELTS (academic) scores required with a 6.5 overall and minimum individual module scores of 6.0.

Students must have baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university; minimum 3.0 GPA in your last 60 hours of undergraduate course work (plus any completed graduate courses); background course work: at least six hours in introductory economics courses (can be taken prior to starting the program or concurrently with first-year courses).
