O que eu aprenderei?

The College of Arts and Sciences along with College of Technology offer a Master of Materials Science program. The Master of Materials Science prepares students for careers in industry and also for postgraduate degrees in Materials Science, Engineering and related field. This program is collaboratively designed to be an interdisciplinary degree between the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Technology. Such an interdisciplinary STEM program will provide hands-on, academic activities and practical experiences for students, readying them to join the workforce.

This program will give the students the ability to think critically, be able to operate various types of scientific equipment, be able to analyze data and interpret findings from laboratory experiments or research. It is the hands-on nature of this program that will prepare students for careers in industry or postgraduate studies in materials science.

Options available for the degree include:

Option I: Thesis

This option is designed to prepare students for a doctoral program, for advanced professional careers, or for students wanting to complete in-depth research experience.

Option II: Non-Thesis

This option is designed to provide a research experience that can include a specific problem, creative and aesthetic efforts such as performances, exhibits, or creative programs, or an internship.

Career Options

Our graduates are prepared for a variety of careers in industry, academia, and government. Students earning a graduate degree will be well-positioned to be accepted into a doctoral program or enter the workforce. Our graduates are qualified for a variety of options:

Ph.D. program candidates for materials science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, and related fields

Research and development: natural and synthetic or composite materials, metals, alloys, rubber, ceramics, semiconductors, polymers, and glasses.

Materials science-related industries job: defense, electronic materials, energy, polymers, biomedical, semiconductor, and related fields many more

The mean annual wage for materials scientists is $101,910 according to the United States Department of Labor.
