The Master of Social Work (MSW) program strives to educate students for advanced, urban social work practice in the community, region, and worldwide, with an emphasis on meeting the needs of people with disabilities. The curriculum is guided by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and the State of New York Education Department.

The Master of Social Work Program requires 60 credits to complete. The curriculum is composed of 12 required courses, four internship courses providing 1,200 hours of supervised internship placement, four integrative seminars, and one graduate elective.

The curriculum combines both method courses and a field of practice concentration in disability studies in either a clinical or macro track. Students in the clinical and macro track take all general MSW courses with the exception of four specific courses that focus either on clinical social work or on macro social work practice.

The Master of Social Work Advanced Standing Program requires 32 credits to complete. The curriculum is composed of a 6-week summer bridge course, six required courses, one integrative seminar, two graduate electives, and two internship courses providing 720 hours of supervised internship placement. The curriculum combines both method courses and a field of practice concentration in disability studies in either a clinical or macro track. Students in the clinical and macro track take all general MSW courses with the exception of four specific courses that focus either on clinical social work or on macro social work practice.

Clinical Track

The clinical social work track prepares students to work directly with individuals, families, and groups to restore, maintain, and enhance bio-psychosocial-spiritual functioning through multidimensional assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. The MSW clinical track program prepares students to sit for the Licensed Master Social Work (LMSW) exam upon graduation, and provides the 12-credit hours of clinical courses to sit for the Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW) exam upon completion of appropriate clinical supervision (usually 3-years post-LMSW). Students on the clinical track will take all general MSW courses and the following four specific clinical courses: The range of the human condition; Assessment and formulation in social work practice with people with disabilities; Modalities of practice with people with disabilities; Integrative social work practice with people with disabilities.
