MFA in Studio Art is a 60 semester-unit degree, both with courses that embrace the multiplicity of artistic expression enhanced with graduate-level critical art history / global cultures courses. Designed to engage artists from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences, our graduate student community encourages intense experimentation with the freedom to work in any medium or range of materials and approaches.
MFA students enjoy field trips and special projects such as group exhibitions, public art and community-based projects in the Inland Empire and Los Angeles art communities, as well as numerous visiting art professionals throughout the year.
There are internships, paid student assistantships, and paid teaching assistant positions available, with opportunities to teach undergraduate lower-division studio classes that are also paid positions.
MFA students engage in comprehensive professional development and leave the program ready to launch their careers as college professors, artists, critics, curators, teachers, community leaders, and more.
The flexibility of these two programs allows for artists from all paths to elevate their art practice to a professional level with encouraging support and mentorship from a wide range of award-winning faculty.
MFA Studio Art students may choose a dedicated studio space or work from a personal studio with full access to all of our facilities. Students may engage in distanced learning as needed in consultation with their Professor.
